Easter is early this year… March 27, so it’s time to start planning! Nothing says Easter like beautiful flowers, representing spring, new beginnings and life. This year, why not create your own floral centerpiece? We’ve created an easy to follow step-by-step guide as well as a video, featuring our senior florist, Kenneth James, right here at Narcissus, to help you create a perfect centerpiece for your Easter entertaining.
DIY: Classic Easter Centerpiece – a hand-tied bouquet
Collect your Materials
Flowers:
- 3-4 blooms of white Hydrangea
- 3 Dusty Roses
- 5-7 Purple Tulips
- Seeded eucalyptus- separated into individual sprigs
- 5-7 Wax Flower sprigs
- 4-6 Lemon Leaf springs
- 3-5 Variegated Aspidistra Leaves
Materials
- 1 piece of floral wire – 10 inches or so
- Floral clippers (garden clippers will work!)
- Vase – We selected a 6inch cylinder, but you can use any vase you have on hand
Build your bouquet
- Start with the Hydrangea in the middle. Grasp together in one hand and arrange for the right height and volume you desire. This allows one hand to hold the bouquet and the other hand free to add your additional blooms and foliage.
- Add the roses to one side, tucking in with the hydrangea.
- Transfer the arrangement to your other hand and add the tulips to the other side of the bouquet, tucking in with the hydrangea - This creates a stunning color block effect.
- Add your foliage, tucking in around the other blooms. Switch the bouquet from hand to hand to easily add the seeded eucalyptus, wax flower and lemon leaf throughout the arrangement.
- When adding the Variegated Aspidistra, tuck the ends of these large leaves back into your hand, to create a “loop” effect which adds extra drama and volume.
- Once you’ve placed all your blooms and greenery, turn the bouquet upside down and secure the florist wire tightly around the stems. Place the wire at the highest point on the bouquet possible. Twist the wire in place to firmly hold the blooms together.
- Trim the ends of all the stems to be approximately the same length. Trim the florist wire as well and it will camouflage right in with the stems.
- Place in your vase with water and enjoy!
You can experiment with different colors of roses, tulips and /or hydrangea. Coordinate with a table cloth, an Easter basket or just pick your favorite colors. Possibilities are endless! We wish everyone a wonderful Easter celebration!
