February is all about love. Valentine’s Day reminds us to express our love and there are many ways to show love.Young and old, men and women, everyone loves to send flowers to their special someone. While we see first-hand how much happiness people feel when they receive flowers, the real joy is often seen in the giver or sender when they are selecting flowers and writing notes to loved ones.
We were inspired by one very generous act of love this Valentine’s Day. Mary Britanak, who answered a request for drivers on our Facebook page donated all of her pay to her charity, Cycle for Survival through Team Rookenthal. Mary’s generous gift to her team and the Cycle for Survival charity was a perfect example of the love and good in our world.
If you don’t know how Cycle for Survival works, teams register together and raise money in order to participate in a relay style indoor cycling event. This is a fun, healthy way to raise money for a very worthy cause. Every dollar raised by Cycle for Survival is directly allocated to rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Rare cancer patients make up about half of all the people fighting cancer but they often have limited treatment options because rare cancer research is extremely underfunded. Cycle for Survival raised $30 million in 2016 and has raised more than $127 million in the last 10 years!
Thank you, Mary for your generous gift to these rare cancer patients, so in need of hope, love and a cure. You are an inspiration to us!
If you want to pay it forward like Mary, consider donating to your favorite charity or Mary’s team, Team Rookenthal with Cycle for Survival: https://www.cycleforsurvival.org/donate.
