Succulents: Beginners Guide

Succulents: Beginners Guide

We couldn’t agree more with the succulent trend! These beauties come in so many colors, they can complement any wedding color, décor or dinner party. Plus, they are super easy to take care of - if you know a few important things. Get started with a succulent arrangement or purchase a few varieties of succulents (there are literally 1000s to pick from) and follow these care tips for a stunning succulent garden.

Succulent Care:

  • Container: Succulents have shallow roots, so smaller, shallow containers are best.
  • Drainage: Proper drainage is key to succulents, remember they thrive in dry climates. Achieve this with a container with drainage holes or by placing pebbles in the bottom of your container, so additional water can run out of the soil.
  • Sunlight: Although succulents like dry climates, they do not thrive in excessive direct sunlight. So, a warm, dry location that doesn’t receive direct sunlight is best.
  • Proper Watering:Succulents will die if overwatered. Only water these desert beauties when the soil has become completely dry from the last watering. Test this by sticking your finger in the soil about half an inch to check dryness.
  • Propagation! Succulents propagate easily… so once you have success with a few succulents, try propagating them and watch your garden grow.

Here at Narcissus, we are also loving the trend of incorporating succulents in wedding flowers!
