When preparing to meet your florist for the very first time here are a few helpful tips:
Firstly, have a color palette or range of color you are most interested in using in mind. Even if you don't have a visual aid, this will go a long way if the color choice is narrowed down.
Note: We love our Pinterest© Brides and believe this is a great tool to gather color, style and theme neatly arranged on easy to navigate boards. If you love it, use it. If not, move on to the tried and true method of organizing your thoughts in an easy to transport folder or binder. Keep in mind many of the images are computer generated or altered. Pictures should be used for inspiration, not exact replication.
Secondly, even if you are not a "flower person" chances are there is a style, type of bloom or combination of blooms you like or dislike. Start by compiling your likes and focus on the positive. If you feel you are a bit all over the map, select a few items you absolutely don't like. This could go a long way to aid your florist of choice in steering clear of those would be party fouls.
Thirdly, even if you don't have a specific budget in mind, understand that most florists are quite accustomed to working with all budgets. Never apologize for where you need to be. Rather, once you have all of your ideas on the table and a quote is presented, be realistic as to where you are willing to adjust or ask for alternative suggestions to keep costs down. If the budget and quote are right on the money, that is a home run! At Narcissus, we are proud to work throughout the New Jersey Shore and we strive to meet our many brides' and grooms' budget requirements no matter where they allow them to be.
Lastly, if at all possible bring a friend! This may be a gal pal, the maid of honor, mom, or even the groom if you can convince him to tag along. Sometimes you just need to bounce some ideas off of a trusted companion, or in the moment of the actual consult you may simply forget a detail you are really interested in hearing more about.
Most importantly however, once you have booked Narcissus as your florist of choice, your first consult is never your last. There is often plenty of time to make changes, adjust ideas and see custom, complementary samples ahead of your big day.
Happy Planning,
